Argentina in Fort Worth

The friendship shirt
Last night in the parking garage of our building, we met Mauricio, an Argentine from Lanus, in the provincia of Buenos Aires just south of the capital city.  It turns out that Mauricio lives eight stories above us, on the 19th floor.

The catalyst for our meeting was the shirt Kurt was wearing, a going-away gift from our friends Lola and Tati in Buenos Aires. Mauricio is a fan of Racing (pronunced raw-sing), one of the top-league futbol clubs in Argentina. He told us he's not seen many Racing shirts in the 20 years he's lived in the U.S.

Lola and the longhorns
Coincidentally, shirt-gifting Lola spent last weekend with us in Fort Worth en route back to Buenos Aires from Milwaukee. Linda took her for a quick tour of the Fort Worth Stockyards on Monday and the morning "parade" of the Fort Worth herd.

To complete the Argentine connection, this Friday night the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (of which we are members) is presenting "Tango at the Modern," with both traditional and nuevo tango music. The museum's excellent Café Modern is featuring a special Argentine dinner paired with some of the country's best wines. Of course we'll be there! Perhaps we'll invite our new friend Mauricio.
